Eric is a fantastic leader. During my six years on his team, he guided a high-growth startup through a period of remarkable success. I look back on it as the most enjoyable and one of the more transformative experiences of my career. Eric is excellent at building lean teams with an outsized impact. I especially appreciated his focus on continually identifying innovative "technical levers" that can be used to multiply developer effort. Eric also cultivates a strong, empowering culture where every team member feels ownership and autonomy.

I was pretty newly a senior engineer but I liked the ownership you gave us in the products we were building. I felt empowered to make decisions and build things that I thought would benefit the products. I realize that some of this had to do with us not really having a PM but I liked it. It felt to me like you did a good job of filtering out most of the bullshit so that we could just focus on designing and building software. My struggle ever since has been to find another job where I actually felt ownership in the product. I'm 100% uninterested in being a code monkey and it's really hard for me to care about something if I'm not making design decisions the way I was at HE.

Eric Clemmons is one of the best leaders I have ever had the opportunity to work with. His mentorship not only reshaped my approach to software development and company management but also taught me the value of thoughtful, people-centric leadership. His guidance has truly transformed my professional journey, and I continue to apply the lessons he imparted on me every day. PS: This is a hard one because there is a lot. People focused, creative solutions, pushing boundaries, trying and being okay to fail, able to find the positive in all work done, the ability to laugh and enjoy the small details in life, a focus on family and mental health, pushing people to take care of themselves, open/honest and that brings trust from all sides, willing to spend extra time and talk through any and all problems, able to listen and get feedback about anything while being open to the feedback, a dreamer, ugh I miss working with you.

Eric was everything positive one looks for in an engineering manager: He always listened to the concerns of his direct reports, acting on them whenever possible; He shielded those under him from outside interference so that we could focus on our work instead of death by a thousand meetings; He was proactive in facilitating cross team collaboration and acted in the best interests of the business as a whole.
