About

As a Naval Veteran turned Automation and Reliability Engineer, I bring 15+ years of experience in network automation, site reliability, and IT operations. My career began in the U.S. Navy as an IT specialist, followed by a successful transition into telecom and enterprise networking, where I've led large-scale automation initiatives and cross-team collaborations.

Recently, at IBM and Cigna, I've specialized in automation-driven infrastructure, security compliance, and process optimization. I've led network automation communities, migrated teams to Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), and developed training repositories to scale knowledge sharing. My expertise in automation, security, and DevOps methodologies ensures streamlined deployments and resilient infrastructure.

At the core of my work is a passion for discovering the unknown potential in others, mentoring engineers, fostering collaboration, and building teams that can achieve the extraordinary. I thrive in leadership roles that drive innovation, ensuring that through teamwork and automation, we create scalable, secure, and efficient solutions that empower organizations to operate at their full potential.

Work Experience

Work Experience

  • Senior Network Automation, Cigna

    Apr, 2024 - Mar, 202511 months

In my time at Cigna, I play a pivotal role in strengthening an Automation Community within my org by leading cross-team collaboration, improving automation processes, and driving the adoption of the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP). In 2024, I conducted 52 bi-weekly meetings, fostering a culture of communication and technical knowledge sharing. To further support teams development, I conducted 38 technical 1:1 sessions, mentoring engineers and guiding them through automation best practices.

A key challenge was aligning all Network Engineering teams on a common scripting languange-Ansible. With varying automation experience and tool preferences, gaining consensus required technical discussions, hands-on training, and leadership buy-in. Through this effort, teams can now develop and maintain their own production-ready automations, reducing reliance on external groups. This standardization has shortened the time from idea to operational automation, ensuring greater efficiency and scalability across the organization.

    • Migrated the automation framework to AAP, improving adoption and engagement.

    • Published 19 training documents on automation best practices.

    • Conducted 38 technical 1:1 sessions to mentor engineers and support skill development.

    • Presented four high-level architectural overviews to Senior Leadership, driving strategic alignment and informed decision-making.

  • Site Reliability Engineer, IBM

    Mar, 2022 - Apr, 20242 years 1 month

As an SRE at IBM, I focused on automating manual tasks, optimizing deployments, and ensuring security compliance across VM infrastructure. I led 20+ deployments within a Sprint-based framework, transforming complex, multi-day processes into streamlined, repeatable workflows completed in hours.

As the team's Security Focal, I automated security compliance requirements, serving as the Technical Owner Delegate for Quarterly Security Assessments with consistently successful outcomes. I also developed automated pipelines in Jenkins for code signing and vulnerability scanning, integrating Twistlock for security validation.

Additionally, I implemented a Netbox-driven VM lifecycle, using webhooks to automate Jira ticketing and vCenter updates, enhancing infrastructure visibility and operational efficiency.

    • Technical Owner Delegate for Security Assessments

    • Automated Code Signing Services

    • Image Scanning Automation using Twistlock during build process

    • Defined a repeatable procedure for BlueFringe Deployments

  • Manager Network Development, Spectrum Enterprise

    Apr, 2019 - Mar, 20222 years 11 months

During my time as the Manager of a Network Development Team at Spectrum, I
worked together with a management team to transition a team of twenty
Network Engineers into Network Developers. This included guiding many into
unclear territory as their job functions were transitioned. Discovering a
clear career path and building a collaborative culture were some of the
    small difficulties to overcome.

Once our Service Reliability Engineering team was estabilished, I guided
them to continue development of scalable Ansible Playbooks for Automated
Deployments in our Production Environment; Building automated regression
tests using GitLab CI/CD and Jenkins; and Containerizing legacy
    applications in Docker.

    • Established an environment with three vertical slice teams involving over twenty developers and three Area Product Owners

    • Guided my development team to automate a manual process which saved Spectrum a projected estimate of one million dollars in Capital Expense

    • Deployment automations using Ansible Roles allowing a scalable cookbook

  • Sr Network Developer, Spectrum Enterprise

    Jul, 2014 - Apr, 20194 years 9 months

At Spectrum Enterprise, our primary focus was to improve efficiencies of
our work-order pipeline by means of automating the provisioning of network
services. We participated in regular code reviews and followed the
principles outlined in gitflow. Our automated build pipeline(CI/CD) was
run through jobs executed by GitLab Runners and Jenkins Jobs. Daily
Stand-ups ensured communication and transparency among the Scrum Team. We
demonstrated our progress to Stakeholders and Product Owners at a per
Sprint Iteration. This would allow a project to fail-fast and be agile
enough to take new direction at the speed of business needs.

As a secondary hat, I developed scalable playbooks with Ansible roles to
systematically deploy our network orchestrator. This effort cut down
countless human hours during our production deployments and regression
    testing.

    • Project Lead: Port Activation

    • Testing Lead: Andromeda Project

    • Development Lead: Systematic Deployments with Ansible

    • Application Development: Coffee Reports

  • Network Engineer, Spectrum Enterprise

    Apr, 2012 - Jul, 20142 years 3 months

With Spectrum Enterprise's Network Engineering team I was able to obtain
multiple Networking and Security Certifications from multiple platforms. I
was able to obtain a CCNP in Routing and Switching, CCNA Security, Juniper
    JNCIA, and Alatel NRS-1.

  • NOC Analysist, Spectrum Enterprise

    Mar, 2011 - Apr, 20121 year 1 month

Spectrum's Regional Network Operation Center(RNOC) Level 1 and Level 2.

  • Broadband Tech, Spectrum Enterprise

    Apr, 2007 - Mar, 20113 years 11 months

Layer 1 field installation and troubleshooting for residential customers.

  • Information Systems Technician, US Navy

    Feb, 2003 - Feb, 20074 years

My time in the Navy was a brief 4 years and arose through the ranks of
E1-E5. I also rose to the challenge of obtaining my Enlisted Surface
Warfare Specialist(ESWS) pin while still an E3.
